Instituted in the 1984 Vendicari today is one of the more
representative humid zones of Europe and its importance, from the
naturalistic point of view, internationally is recognized. Hundreds
are the species of birds that choose it every year like place of
pause in the travel towards the reproduction zones.
But the Reservoir is not only this. It is, in fact, one of the few places in which it is still possible to observe the typical
Mediterranean flora in all its splendor.

encloses. The history of the relationship between Vendicari and the

the Arabic domination (fortifications of Citadel) to the Middle Ages
(Sveva Tower) in order to arrive to XVIII century with the
rest of the Tonnara in activity until according to world-wide
conflict.
